The Capstone Experience is an integral part of the major programme or the “professional core” of professional curricula. Students are engaged in projects, research, internships or other activities in their senior year(s) to integrate knowledge and skills acquired in their undergraduate studies.
Students with outstanding academic performance can be awarded an Undergraduate Research Fellowship to undertake a research study under a supervisor. They will receive an internship grant which enables them to do research in Hong Kong or overseas, and be offered early admission into a research postgraduate programme.
The Hong Kong Project
The Hong Kong Project is a new university-wide elite capstone course, enabling students to venture through the entire journey from understanding social issues to devising practical plans for implementation. This 6-credit one-semester course is open to final-year undergraduate students from all disciplines, who shall work in groups of four to six from different Faculties to develop solutions to real-life problems faced by an organisation or corporation in Hong Kong, under the supervision of community partners and an academic supervisor.
Undergraduate Research Programme – EUREKA
The Undergraduate Research Programme – EUREKA offers extended learning opportunities for undergraduate students to undertake inquiry-based research projects during the early years of their normative study period. Spanning across one academic year, this 6-credit elective course consists of a “Preparation for University. Essentials for Success” course and an “Introduction to Research Methods” course, to be undertaken online, and EUREKA research projects in the Second Semester under the supervision of a mentor.
Undergraduate Research Fellowship Programme (URFP)
The URFP is a prestigious programme aimed to enhance students’ learning experience and to nurture the next generation of researchers/scholars. It offers opportunities for academically outstanding undergraduate students to undertake research under the guidance and supervision of academics who have a strong research track record and experience in training research postgraduate students. Students enrolled in the URFP are required to undertake a research study. If research internship forms an essential part of the research study, the enrolled students will be considered for awards for undertaking such research internships locally, in the Mainland or overseas.
